Cremation Bible Verses on Burial
  1. Leviticus 20:14 – This verse states, “If a man takes a woman and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they; that there be no wickedness among you.” This verse refers to the burning of the bodies of those who committed adultery.
  2. Joshua 7:15 – This verse says, “And it shall be, that he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath.” This verse refers to the burning of the body of a man who had stolen and hidden items that were devoted to the Lord.
  3. Isaiah 30:33 – This verse reads, “For Tophet is ordained of old; yea, for the king it is prepared; he hath made it deep and large: the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of the Lord, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it.” This verse speaks of the burning of bodies in a place called Tophet, which was used by the kings of Israel for religious sacrifices.
  4. Jeremiah 7:32 – This verse states, “Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that it shall no more be called Tophet, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter: for they shall bury in Tophet, till there be no place.” This verse speaks of the burning of bodies in a place called Tophet as part of a religious ritual.
  5. Ezekiel 39:17 – This verse reads, “And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord God; Speak unto every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.” This verse speaks of a great sacrifice that involves the burning of bodies on the mountains of Israel.
  6. Genesis 23:19 – “After this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah, before Mamre.” – Abraham buried Sarah, his wife, in a cave.
  7. Genesis 25:9 – “And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre.” – Abraham’s sons, Isaac and Ishmael, buried him in the same cave as Sarah.
  8. Genesis 49:29-30 – “Then he commanded them and said to them: ‘I am to be gathered to my people; bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite, in the cave that is in the field of Makpelah, which is before Mamre in the land of Canaan.’” – Jacob commanded his sons to bury him in the same cave as his fathers.
  9. Genesis 50:13 – “For his sons carried him to the land of Canaan and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field from Ephron the Hittite for a possession of a burial place.” – Jacob’s sons carried him to the land of Canaan and buried him in the same cave.
  10. 1 Kings 13:30 – “For the saying which he cried out by the word of the Lord against the altar in Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to pass.” – The man of God was buried in Bethel.
  11. 2 Kings 23:29 – “In his days Pharaoh Neco king of Egypt went to the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates. King Josiah went against him; and Pharaoh Neco killed him at Megiddo when he confronted him.” – Josiah was killed at Megiddo and his servants carried him back to Jerusalem and buried him in his own tomb.
  12. 2 Chronicles 35:24 – “And his servants carried him in a chariot dead from Megiddo, and brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own tomb.” – Josiah’s servants carried him in a chariot from Megiddo to Jerusalem and buried him in his own tomb.
  13. Job 3:11 – “Why did I not die at birth? Why did I not perish when I came from the womb?” – Job wished he had died at birth or at least been buried.
  14. Ecclesiastes 6:3 – “If a man begets a hundred children and lives many years, so that the days of his years are many, but his soul is not satisfied with goodness, or indeed he has no burial, I say that a stillborn child is better than he.” – A stillborn child is better off than a man who has no burial.
  15. Isaiah 57:2 – “He shall enter peaceably, he shall rest in his beds, who walks in his uprightness.” – The righteous will be buried in peace.
  16. Luke 23:53 – “And he took it down, wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a tomb that was hewn out of the rock, where no one had ever lain before.” – Jesus was buried in a new tomb.
  17. John 19:41-42 – “Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid. So there they laid Jesus, because of the Jews’ Preparation Day, for the tomb was nearby.” – Jesus was buried in a new tomb in a garden nearby.
  18. Acts 5:5-10 – “And Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last. So great fear came upon all those who heard these things. Then the young men arose and wrapped him up, carried him out, and buried him. Now it was about three hours before daylight when they came to him, and did not find him in the tomb; they were perplexed about this. Then it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments.” – Ananias was buried after he died.
  19. Acts 8:2 – “And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.” – Stephen was carried to his burial.
  20. Acts 13:36 – “For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and saw corruption.” – David was buried with his fathers.
