15 Unique Facts about Man’s Purpose, verse and Description

  1. Man’s purpose is to glorify and serve God. This is the primary purpose of man, as it is written in the Bible, “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being” (Revelation 4:11).
  2. Man is created to have fellowship with God. “God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27).
  3. Man is created to be a steward of God’s creation. This includes taking care of the earth and all of its inhabitants. “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it” (Genesis 2:15).
  4. Man is created to have dominion over the created world. This means that man has the responsibility to exercise authority over the created world, but must do so with humility, wisdom, and justice. “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground” (Genesis 1:28).
  5. Man is created to be a companion to God. This is evident in the relationship between Adam and Eve. They were created to be companions and to share in the work that God had given them to do. “The Lord God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him’” (Genesis 2:18).
  6. Man is created to be in relationship with others. This is evident in the relationship between Adam and Eve, as well as in the relationships that we see in the Bible between God and his people. “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another” (John 13:34).
  7. Man is created to worship and praise God. This is a fundamental part of man’s purpose, as it is written in the Bible, “Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth” (Psalm 96:1).
  8. Man is created to enjoy the beauty of creation. This is evident in the way that God created the world and the creatures that inhabit it. “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” (Matthew 6:26).
  9. Man is created to be an example of righteousness. This is in order to show others the way to live a life that is pleasing to God. “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship” (Romans 12:1).
  10. Man is created to be a witness for God. This is in order that others may come to know and accept Jesus as their Savior. “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8).
  11. Man is created to seek justice. This is in order to bring about righteousness and equality in the world. “Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow” (Isaiah 1:17).
  12. Man is created to bring glory to God’s name. This is accomplished through living a life of faith and obedience. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving” (Colossians 3:23-24).
  13. Man is created to be obedient to God’s commands. This is done in order to bring glory and honor to God. “Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you” (Hebrews 13:17).
  14. Man is created to live in community with others. This is in order to build up the body of Christ and to demonstrate the love of God. “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:25).
  15. Man is created to have hope in God. This is because God is the source of all hope and strength. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit ” (Romans 15:13).
