27 Bible Verses about Healthy Eating

Bible Verse about Healthy Eating – When you bring God into yourΒ healthy eating, it changes everything. Striving to honor Him in your food and drink choices. One thing we can be sure of is that God wants us to live happy lives by taking care of our bodies through healthy eating habits. However, we have a role to play in the health of our bodies. Each of us must ensure we eat healthy food and do exercise so that we are ready to do the work God has given us. God has given us Bible verses about healthy eating, and we can meditate on them for the sake of our health.

Bible Verse about Healthy Eating

In this article, we will look at Bible verses on healthy eating.

1.Β Β Genesis 1:29 – Then God said, β€œI give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.”

God knew from the beginning that we would need fresh and wholesome food, and He provided it for us. He made sure that the earth was full of food that we could harvest and eat. It is our responsibility to ensure that we eat as many nutrient-rich foods as we can. Bible Verses about Healthy Eating

2.Β Β Matthew 15:10-20 – Jesus called the crowd to him and said, β€œListen and understand. What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.”

See Amazons Resources for What the Bible Says about Eating

Jesus was making it clear to His audience that they should not judge anyone based on what they ate. We need to ensure that we give due importance to health as defined by medical practitioners and not minor issues such as taste.

3.Β Β 1 Corinthians 3:16 – Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?

Jesus was very clear that we should take care of our health and ensure we eat the right food, but He also told us not to defile God’s temple. We should ensure we spend time in prayer and fasting so that we can determine the best path to health. Bible Verses about Healthy Eating

4.Β Β Proverbs 23:2 – Put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony.

Many of us know that we eat too much, but it is hard for us to stop doing so. We need to prepare our minds and hearts through prayer before we come in contact with food. Eating the right food will be easier if we vow not to commit gluttony when we eat.

5.Β Β Proverbs 23:2-3 – Put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony; do not crave his delicacies, for that food is deceptive.

In this verse, God tells us that we will be destroyed by our health condition. We cannot afford health diseases because most health problems come with a hefty price tag. We need to ensure we follow healthy eating guidelines so that we can live long and healthy lives.

6.Β Β Proverbs 25:16 – If you find honey, eat just enough- too much of it, and you will vomit.

We all love the taste of sweet foods such as honey, but eating too much of it will make us vomit. Honey is an excellent health food, but it has a lot of sugar, which can give us health problems in excess.

7.Β Β Deuteronomy 32:13 – He made him ride on the heights of the land and gave him samples of all the crops of the region. He made him suck honey from the rock and olive oil from the hardest stone.

God created us with health problems on purpose so that we will never eat healthily because it is hard for most people to follow healthy eating guidelines without divine intervention. Being healthy is not just about eating fruits and vegetables; many people cannot live healthily even if they do eat healthily.

8.Β Β John 6:35 – Jesus said, β€œI am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

Jesus was very clear that we should eat healthy food for our health and well-being. He made it even easier for us by telling us that healthy eating is important and we should not go hungry for healthy food.

9.Β Deuteronomy 8:7-8 – Remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth… So do not forget the Lord your God, as you might want to do after tasting some of these blessings.

We all love health food but sometimes we fall off the healthy eating wagon after tasting health food. We need to ensure that we continue to eat healthily because God wants us to feel better about ourselves and not suffer illness if possible. It is alright for us to relax our health rules once in a while, just don’t overdo it.

10.Β Ephesians 5:23 – The fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth.

When we eat healthily, we will feel better and light because healthy food is good for our health and well-being. We will be in a position to do more good things if we stay healthy through healthy eating.

11.Β Matthew 15:17 – Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body?

We all need healthy eating guidelines because we can eat healthily by following some simple healthy eating principles in life and not eating healthy food with an attitude of gluttony. Eating healthily will be easier if we avoid healthy food that makes us overeat.

12.Β Matthew 15:11 – It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but it is what comes out of the mouth that defiles them.”

We are health conscious for health reasons. We should ensure we eat healthily because God wants us to be healthy for health reasons. We all need healthy eating guidelines so that we can stay healthy, eat healthily and live healthily.

13.Β Leviticus 11:1-47 – Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron… I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you.

God created health eating guidelines so that we will always get healthy food even if there are no health stores around to get health supplements from. He made healthy eating easy for us by ensuring that healthy food is available everywhere and in all seasons of the year.

14.Β Β Genesis 9:3 – Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you.Β Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.

God not only gave us plants to eat but animals too. We are free to eat of the animals that the Bible recommends. Both meat and plants have the nutrients we need to remain healthy and disease-free.

15.Β Β 1 Corinthians 6:12 – β€œI have the right to do anything,” you sayβ€”but not everything is beneficial.Β β€œI have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything.

As much as we can eat the foods at our disposal, we need to ask ourselves if everything we eat is beneficial to our bodies. Some of the processed foods we like to snack on are not good for our health. We don’t have to eat certain foods because everyone is eating them if they are harmful to our bodies. Some foods make us predisposed to certain illnesses, and we are better off if we cut them off from our diet.

16.Β Β Isaiah 58:11 – TheΒ LordΒ will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring.

God understands how important it is to hydrate our bodies. Our bodies need water as much as they need food, and we must ensure we drink enough water. When our bodies are refreshed, we are energetic and active, and get a lot done in our day.

17.Β Β 3 John 1:2 – Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.

We are meant to enjoy good health every day and if we are not, we can pray about it. Every part of us needs to prosper – our soul, spirit, and body.

Bible Verses about Nutrition (Bible Verses about Healthy Eating)

Ezekiel 4:9 – Take wheat and barley, beans and lentils, millet and spelt;Β put them in a storage jar and use them to make bread for yourself…

By eating a variety of foods, we ensure that our bodies get all the nutrients they need. Our nutrition is important if we are to remain healthy and disease-free. God knew that we would need a variety of foods and He provided them. Grains are healthy and we can use them to make bread, and porridge, or use them to fortify other foods.Β

Deuteronomy 8:3 – Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of theΒ Lord.

As much as we need physical food to survive, we also need the Word of God. Our spiritual health is also important, and many times our physical illnesses are because we are spiritually malnourished. God gave us His Word to nourish our spirits so that our nutrition can be wholesome.

Bible Verses about Diet (Eat)

Daniel 1:12 – β€œPlease test us for ten days on a diet of vegetables and water,” Daniel said.

From the above Scripture, we see that Daniel and his friends asked for a diet of vegetables and water. The result was that they were healthier than those who ate the king’s choice food (Daniel 1:15). Daniel preferred to have fresh plant-based foods that were healthy for his body. We should reach out for fresh foods as opposed to processed ones. Our bodies will thank us.

Colossians 2:20-21 – Therefore, if youΒ died with Christ from the basic principles of the world,Β why, asΒ thoughΒ living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulationsβ€”Β β€œDo not touch, do not taste, do not handle,”

We should not diet the way the world does. Many advocates for avoiding foods that are good for our bodies or eating food combinations that don’t work for our bodies. The Bible guides us on how to ensure the health of our bodies without having to avoid certain food groups. Be wary of many diets that say you should only eat certain food groups and not others. God provided us with different kinds of food for our enjoyment.

What does the Bible (God) say about Exercise?

1 Corinthians 9:26-27 – Therefore I run thus:Β not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not asΒ one whoΒ beats the air.Β But I discipline my body andΒ bringΒ itΒ into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should becomeΒ disqualified.

We are to ensure that we have a proper plan for exercising our bodies so that they remain healthy. This calls for discipline so that we can be consistent in our exercise. Having healthy and strong bodies gives us the energy we need to move around and fulfill the call upon our lives.

Jesus gave us the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20), which is to make disciples of all nations. This calls for healthy bodies that can serve us well at all times.

The Old Testament Eating Guidelines (Unclean)

The Old Law had many suggestions on what to eat and what not to eat. Some health experts say that wheat back in the day contained more nutrition than today’s wheat, but I don’t know if this is true or not. However, let’s look at what God said.

As much as health experts would want us to eat whole grains, God provided for many different types of food that were healthy. He did not give us a list of what to eat and not eat. He simply said that we should eat healthy foods and be careful to avoid certain types of food.

Deuteronomy 14:9-10 – β€œThese you may eat, of all that are in the waters. Everything in the waters that has fins and scales, whether in the seas or in the rivers, you may eat.

And whatever does not have fins and scales among all the teeming life of the water, and among all the living creatures that are in the waters, they are detestable things to you…”

God allowed us to eat seafood as opposed to plants only. He also said that we are to avoid certain health-hazardous food. First, He said that we should avoid health-hazardous foods known as β€œdetestable things”. Leviticus 11:10-12 list the health hazardous foods not to eat,

Leviticus 11:10-12 – Whatever divides a hoof, thus making splitΒ hooves, andΒ chews the cud, among the animals, that may you eat. Nevertheless, these you shall not eat among those that chew the cud orΒ divide the hoof: The camel, because it chews the cud but does notΒ divide

-the hoof, is unclean to you. And the rock hyrax, because it chews the cud but does not divide the hoof, is unclean to you.

– Also the swine, because it divides the hoof but does not chew the cud, is unclean to you. TheirΒ meat you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall not touch.

For health concerns health-hazardous food, God instructed the Israelites to avoid these health-hazardous foods in Leviticus 11:1-8.

Leviticus 11:1-8 – And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying to them, β€œSpeak to the people of Israel, saying,Β  β€˜These are the living things which you may eat among all the animals that are on the earth. Whatever parts the hoof and is cloven-footed and chews the cud, among the animals, that you may eat… The following you shall not eat among those that chew the cud orΒ divide the hoof: The camel, because it chews the cud but does not divide the hoof, is unclean to you.

– And the rock hyrax, because it chews the cud but does not divide the hoof, is unclean to you. – Also the swine, because it divides the hoof but does not chew the cud, is unclean to you.

– TheirΒ meat you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall not touch.”

God instructed the Israelites to avoid health-hazardous foods, but he did not stipulate what was healthy or unhealthy for them to eat. I think God knew that health hazards are health hazards regardless of whether they are manmade health hazards or health hazards of what He had created. For instance, God knew that eating pork is health hazardous whether it’s because they are dirty animals or unhealthy for human consumption.

God cautioned against eating blood.

– Deuteronomy 12:22 – β€œYou shall not eat it; you shall pour it out on the ground like water.

Deuteronomy 12:23-24 – You shall not eat it, in order that it may go well with you and your children after you when you do what is right in the sight of the Lord. ButΒ the holy things which are due from you, and yourΒ promised contributions, you shall take, and you shall go to the place which the Lord will choose,

God said that they should not eat of blood. He seemed to be more concerned about health than eating clean or unclean foods. Otherwise, he would have mentioned the health hazards of eating blood.

Bible Verse about Healthy Living

when it comes to healthy living, one Bible verse that often comes up is 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, which says, β€œDo you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”

Most Popular Bible Verse About Healthy Living: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

This verse is popular because it directly addresses the idea of treating your body with respect and care, essentially as a β€˜temple’ where the Holy Spirit resides. It provides a compelling, spiritual reason to prioritize health and well-being.

3 Main Takeaways:

  1. Your Body as a Temple
    • Snippet: The verse likens your body to a temple, emphasizing its sacredness and the need to treat it with respect. Just as you wouldn’t defile a religious space, you shouldn’t neglect or harm your body. This perspective offers a strong spiritual incentive for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
  2. The Role of the Holy Spirit
    • Snippet: According to this verse, your body is not just a physical entity but a dwelling place for the Holy Spirit. This adds a layer of spiritual accountability to how you treat yourself. If the Holy Spirit resides within you, taking care of your physical well-being becomes a form of spiritual stewardship.
  3. You Were Bought at a Price
    • Snippet: This part of the verse serves as a reminder that Christians believe they were redeemed by the sacrifice of Jesus. That β€˜price’ adds value to your life and body, encouraging you to honor God through healthy living. It’s not just about looking good or feeling good; it’s about honoring the divine gift of life and well-being.

So, whether you’re considering a new diet, thinking about exercising, or making any lifestyle change for your health, remembering that your β€œbody is a temple” can offer that extra motivation to make choices that honor both your physical and spiritual self. Isn’t it fascinating how a single verse can offer such comprehensive guidance? 😊

Final Thoughts – Bible Verses about Healthy Eating

As we ensure that we have a healthy diet, let us remember to thank God for the food we eat. 1 Timothy 4:4 says that everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving.Β As we thank God for the food we eat, let us also pray for those who don’t have, that God may provide for them too.Β

How to be saved according to the Bible In order to understand how to be saved, we first need to understand what salvation is. Salvation is when God forgives our sins and gives us eternal life. It's a free gift from God that we can't earn on our own. So how do we receive this gift? The Bible tells us that there are six steps: hearing, believing, repenting, confessing, repenting again, and believers baptism. Let's break each one of these down. Hearing - The first step is hearing the gospel. The gospel is the good news that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and rose again. This news must be heard in order for us to believe it. Believing - Once we hear the gospel, we must believe it. This means that we trust that Jesus is who He says He is and that He can save us from our sins. Repenting - Once we believe the gospel, we must repent of our sins. This means that we turn away from our sin and start living for God. Confessing - After we repent of our sins, we need to confess them to God. This means that we tell God all of the sinful things we have done and ask Him for forgiveness. Believers Baptism - The final step is believers baptism. This is when a person who has already believed and repented is baptized in water as an outward sign of their inward decision to follow Christ. Baptism doesn't save us, but it's an important step of obedience for every Christian. Discipling others - Finally, once we have received salvation through these steps, it's important that we continue to grow in our faith and share the gospel with others so they too can be saved. These are the six steps required for salvation according to the Bible: hearing, believing, repenting, confessing, repenting again, and believers baptism. If you have never done these things or if you're not sure if you've done them correctly, I encourage you to talk to a pastor or other Christian friend who can help guide you through these steps. Salvation is a free gift from God, but it's one that we need to take intentional steps to receive. Don't wait another day - start your journey towards salvation today!
