Christmas: What Did Jesus say about Christmas

Jesus Christ did not specifically speak about Christmas in the Bible. The celebration of Christmas, as the birth of Jesus Christ, is not directly mentioned in Scripture. The concept of celebrating Christmas as it is known today developed later in Christian history. However, the birth of Jesus is narrated in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, which provide the foundational accounts that Christians reflect on during the Christmas season.

Relevant Bible Verses:

  1. Luke 2:7: “And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.”
  2. Matthew 1:21: “She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
  3. Luke 2:10-11: “And the angel said to them, ‘Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.'”

Three Main Takeaways:

  1. The Humility of Jesus’ Birth: The circumstances of Jesus’ birth, in a manger because there was no room at the inn, emphasize the humility and simplicity that marked the entrance of the Savior into the world. This teaches Christians the value of humility and simplicity in their own lives.
  2. The Purpose of Jesus’ Coming: Matthew 1:21 highlights the purpose of Jesus’ birth—to save people from their sins. Christmas, therefore, is a reminder of the salvation that Jesus brings to humanity and the hope that Christians have in Him.
  3. Joy and Good News for All: The announcement of Jesus’ birth to the shepherds (Luke 2:10-11) symbolizes that the good news of Jesus Christ is for everyone, regardless of their social status or background. This inclusivity underscores the universal offer of salvation and the joy that Jesus brings to all people.

While Jesus did not directly talk about Christmas, the accounts of His birth carry deep significance for Christian faith and practice, focusing on themes of humility, salvation, joy, and inclusiveness.
