  1. Jesus was born in Bethlehem (Luke 2:4-7) – The city of Bethlehem was named in the Old Testament and is located in the southern region of the nation of Israel. It is here that Jesus was born to the Virgin Mary, his mother, and Joseph, his earthly father.
  2. An Angel Announced Jesus’ birth (Luke 2:9-14) – An angel of the Lord first visited the shepherds in the fields outside of Bethlehem to announce the birth of Jesus. The angel was joined by a multitude of other heavenly beings who sang praises to God.
  3. A Census Took Place Before Jesus’ Birth (Luke 2:1-5) – A census was taken throughout the Roman Empire. Joseph and Mary had to travel from their home in Nazareth to Bethlehem in order to register, resulting in the fulfillment of the prophecy that Jesus would be born in Bethlehem.
